A recent article in the New York Times, Golden Rice:  A Lifesaver?, touched on a number of intertwined food concerns, including–

  • Genetically modified organisms
  • malnutrition (vitamin A deficiency) in the developing world leading to blindness and death
  • Giving away the seeds in the developing world, but retaining the patents and profits in the developed world

and more food for thought.
